Wired and Ready to Go With A Doppio
I was working on a last minute assignment the other night when a friend dropped by. When I mentioned it was going to be a long night, he suggested a doppio. I had never heard of doppio before.
Simon and my girlfriend made the doppio while I searched for more about doppio . When you are pressed on an assignment, distraction can be most welcome.
Espresso is strong coffee with flavorful intensity. For those days, nights when you want to kick up the espresso, then try a doppio. A doppio is a double espresso, not double the amount of liquid. But double the amount of espresso taste.
Note: There appears to be some variation as to whether the doppio is two shots or a double espresso or simply a double strength single shot of espresso. Simon believes in concentrating time and effort so I had the double strength single shot. Talk about being wired!
You want dark rich freshly roasted coffee beans that have lots of the flavorful coffee oils. Grind the beans to a very fine consistency.
Pack the double filter basket so the ground coffee beans are tightly compacted. The espresso machine is set for a single cup. When your espresso is finished, the doppio will have a beautiful crema.
My fingers flew over the keyboard that night especially after three of Simon’s doppios. Not sure when I will have another doppio, but I definitely did not have problems staying awake that night.
