7-Eleven: Presidential Vote With Your Coffee Cup

I received an email from a reader yesterday asking why I was backing John McCain for President. The email proceeded to tell me why I shouldn't and so on. I was rather puzzled for a number of reasons. I had not discussed a presidential preference.  Out of curiosity or stupidity I emailed back. I asked the reader why he asked his question.

The reader pointed out I use a red coffee cup as the flavicon (the little symbol up top in the browser line at the top of your computer screen.)  Now in the interest of full disclosure my former girlfriend chose the red cup. I had nothing to do with it.

The reader told me the 7-Eleven corner store chain has a marketing promotional campaign.  When you stop by a 7-Eleven and buy a cup of coffee you get to pick a red cup if you support John McCain or blue cup if you support Barack Obama.  Evidently the company has done this in previous US elections. The predictions have predicted results for the past two elections.

Every time someone buys a cup of coffee at the 7-Eleven store the register tallies the color which is sent to a central tally site. The results are reported on CNN and USA Today on a daily basis.

7 Eleven doesn't have stores here in San Antonio so I wasn't aware of the promotion. And since I'm a transplanted Canadian, I won't be voting. But I do enjoy my coffee whether it's Republican or Democrat.

Personally I'm enjoying a sampler of sorts as I continue with my Boca Java selections with more than 30 unique blends and flavors you won't find anywhere else

I just opened a bag of Palm Beach Passion.  I know it's a strange name, but the aroma of the coffee is great.  I had set up the coffee brewing before I got in the shower. When I got out of the shower I could already smell the rich strong coffee flavor. And the taste didn't disappoint either. If you're a person who like a dark roast full-bodied cup of coffee then this is a great cup. Beans are a mix of dark and medium roast South American beans.

I really savored the taste as I drank the first cup. And the second cup was equally good. For me Boca Java is coffee that tastes as good as it smells.

So if you live in the US and can vote, you have 33 days till election. If you want to vote with your coffee cup then drop by 7-Eleven.  As for me, my coffee cup is stainless steel and I'm enjoying my coffee.

Not the usual grind,

Tip of the mug to 7-Eleven.com for the red cup blue cup ad.
