Shaken Not Stirred Ice Coffee Drinks

ice-coffe-with-a-straw.The temperature's been in the 90's with more heat to come. I enjoy hot coffee but these days are when my mind turns to ice coffee.  Sipping on ice coffee showly can lead to a watery tasteless mess.

In the past I've frozen ice cubes made of espresso for use in my ice coffee. But being an impatient guy I wanted my coffee cold quickly. Simon, a fellow coffee lover(he calls himself an aficionado), suggested getting out the cocktail shaker.

What the heck? So we made some espresso. Put  four ice cubes in the shaker and then shook up the espresso. Poured the chilled espresso into a glass and voila ice coffee. It was cold and easy to do.

Simon got creative (it's his thing) and tried the next batch with an improvised recipe (I had dulce de leche in the 'fridge)

Here's the recipe Simon used:

  •  2 shots espresso
  •  2  tbs dulce de leche (carmelized sweetned condensed milk in jar  or can.)
  •  4 Ice cubes

Add espresso and dulce de leche to a cocktail shaker,  and shake to mix the duce with the espresso. (or you could stir it into a mixture). Then add the 4 cubes of ice. with 4 cubes of  ice. (Tip of the mug to Anna for her suggestion.) . Shake the espresso mixture vigorously to make it frothy and serve immediately.
Serves 1 ( I suggest you do this one glass at a time as the dulce de leche sometimes clumps in larger amounts)

Now if I was sitting on the balcony with my girlfriend I'd probably add some ice cubes. And when she's around I use the espresso cubes so the coffee isn't diluted. (We tend to linger and talk)

What's your favorite ice coffee drink? Post it here and we all can have new ice coffee drinks to drink this summer.

Not the usual grind,
