Coffee Mugs
There is what people call now a “tea revolution,” more and more companies in the food industry is modifying tea so it may cater to a younger audience. Nevertheless, coffee shops sprouting like mushrooms are proof enough that coffee is here to stay.
For coffee lovers, sometimes their love for coffee goes beyond the taste. Some of them have become to keen that they take notice of the cup or the mug. Shops usually serve hot beverages in coffee mugs instead of the typical coffee or teacup.
As defined, mugs or coffee mugs are difference from the typical cups since they are usually sturdier and hold larger amounts of liquid or fluid. Most mugs are also non-transparent and are typically less formal to look at compared to cups.
Coffee mugs are made with different ceramic materials. Among those are stoneware, earthenware, bone china, and porcelain. There are others though that are made from strengthened glass such as Pyrex. Campers and those who enjoy outdoor activities generally prefer coffee mugs made of plastic, steel or enameled metal since said materials have greater resistance against breakage.
All over the years, coffee mug enthusiasts and specialists have been coming up with different ideas to give the beverage container a twist and make it useful to more people. There’s the travel coffee mug that may or may not be a vacuum flask but is usually completely enclosed and well insulated.
Then there’s the puzzle coffee mug. As the name suggests, the design makes it impossible for someone to drink from the mug since it has several holes on the rim and only way to do so is to cover all the other and drink through one hole in the hollow handle.
Personalizing coffee mugs have also become a trend not only in coffee shops but also even as gift items. Popular coffee chains such as Starbucks, The Green Bean and Seattle’s Best have their company name and logo on their mugs. This marketing or advertising scheme is also not limited to coffee shops but also in companies in other industries. Coffee mugs are usually given out as giveaways and non-coffee drinkers who receive such items use the mug as a penholder.
Coffee mug designs are also made to fit certain occasions. Mugs with snowman, pine trees, or lantern drawings can be found in stores during the holiday season. Out of this world and outrageous designs are also available for those who have fun personalities.
Whatever the design maybe, as long as people keep drinking coffee and other hot beverages, coffee mugs will continue to evolve not only in shape, but also in design and make.
